Bake Maine Collaboration, and the rest of my Friday
Friday was an especially productive day for me here at cnh images. I woke up early, and was on the road after doing a few things at home, by 9am. My intention was to meet up with bakery owner (and former high school classmate of mine), Kristen Lawson-Perry at her bakery, Bake Maine, in Wells Maine. I arrived at 10:30 to discuss options with her about displaying some of my photography there for her customers to peruse and buy. I brought down a collection of roughly 40 photos, mixed sizes of 8x10's and 11x14's. We looked at her available space, and came up with a tentative plan to decorate the walls.
Kristen ended up selecting a total of 11 pieces, most for the Wells location, but some for the Portland location as well. She may add more in Portland, but for now, it's a start! I am so honored that she and her business partner, (who also happens to be her husband, Doug), are allowing me to work with them. So now, I have to build 11 custom frames, and stain them. I'll be hopping on this quickly so we can set up a time to install. More information will be coming out on that hopefully in the near future!
After meeting with Kristen, since I was down in Southern Maine, I took the opportunity to go and take some photographs. I had plans of going to Rachel Carson Refuge, but as I pulled in to the parking lot, I realized it was a holiday weekend (Columbus Day), and there was hardly any parking, so I opted to forgo that location. My next spot was going to be Marginal Way in Ogunquit, but as you can imagine, it was also very packed, and I decided to opt out on that one. Seems like I was striking out, but I soldiered on. My next stop, which I had never been to, was the Wiggly Bridge, in York. I had success here! Parking is a bit odd, because the only spots directly across from it are permit only, so I had to find parking down by the marina, and it was approximately a 10 minute walk to get back to the Wiggly Bridge. It was worth it. Not too many people there, and a great photo opportunity! Those pics will be popping up on my feed here shortly.
After the Wiggly Bridge, I then proceeded to the Nubble Lighthouse, in Cape Neddick. Only a few short minutes away from the Wiggly Bridge. Sohier Park was packed, as were the beaches. I saw surfers, beach-goers, and a lot of shoppers due to the last real hurrah of the tourist season. I was able to find a parking spot at Sohier Park, and then proceeded to make my way down onto the rocks for some snaps of the Nubble. Those will be popping up on my feed very shortly.
By this time, after taking those pictures, my plan was to head closer to where I grew up, in Acton, Maine. I had a particular photo idea from years past that I wanted to recreate with the Mousam Dam. It was about 2pm at this point, and I had contacted my parents after I finished up at Bake Maine to see if they'd like to meet up for dinner with me. They were excited about that, so we had a plan to meet up at Longhorn Restaurant in Biddeford at 4pm. So, the trip to Acton didn't happen. It would have pinched me for time, and I didn't want to be late or have to rush a shot just for the sake of taking a photo. I'll plan on hitting that location some other time. So, instead, I headed to the summit of Mt Agamenticus, also in York. It was a bluebird day, so visibility was excellent, albeit very windy. I could see Mt Washington and Wildcat Mountain in the distance. I snapped a few pics, but the foliage down in Southern Maine is not what it is in Central Maine, so the pictures are sub-standard in my opinion. I may or may not post them later, that's still to be decided.
Friday was a perfect day to me. I got to travel in great weather, make a business deal with old friends, and I even sold a few pieces of my work while at Bake Maine to a couple of nice ladies from Florida who overheard what I was doing there. They pulled me aside after my meeting and asked to look through my material. They bought a total of three pieces. I was so happy. It seemed like all cylinders were firing that day, and I was just overjoyed with how the day went.
