Learning The Value of Patience
As almost everyone knows, last night was a beautiful showing of the Aurora Borealis. I figured I would wait until it was dark out to try and photograph it. So, I kept myself busy in the house until it was that time. My Fiance got back from volunteering at a local animal shelter, and we decided after sitting down for a bit, to go out and explore and try and get some shots. This was roughly 8pm. We drove to a few spots we thought would be great for viewing. Nothing. Then drove to another spot, more secluded, darker, and still.... nothing. Meanwhile, as she's driving and I'm in the passenger seat, I'm checking social media. Photos EVERYWHERE! Literally right down the street from us. But, that was at 7pm(ish). I was like, "Damn, we missed our opportunity I think!"
This was a lesson in learning patience for me. I came back online this morning, and checked out a lot of other photographers I follow on socials. Some of them ended up staying out all night. One photographer even went to multiple locations in Southern Maine, capturing spectacular images from the Nubble Lighthouse, Perkins Cove, etc. I know I am new to this whole Photography thing, but man, I have some learning to do, and I am learning very quickly that patience will be key.
As I am writing this, Kayla had just called me, TWICE, on her way to work. She said the skies are gorgeous this morning with hues of pink and purple clouds on the horizon. I have a feeling the gases are lingering in the atmosphere from last night's spectacle. She's encouraging me to go out this morning and grab some shots, but I have other plans for today and I need to be on the road by 9, so it's a time constraint for me.
I am happy to see all of the great photos popping up online. I hope that there will be another opportunity in my lifetime for this. It will also allow me to hone my skills more so I can hopefully get some epic shots next time! Patience. Patience. Patience!
